Internationals W Team Win Home and Season Opener
Copley, OH - Saturday, June 2, 2007
The Cleveland Internationals opened their season at home versus the Chicago Gaels on Friday night (June 1) at Copley Road Soccer Complex. The Internationals fought hard for ninety minutes to secure the 3-1 victory.
Rose Augustin of the Cleveland Internationals opened the scoring in the 34th minute off of a cross from Nicole Sanda which was flicked on to the fr post by the head of Danesha Adams. The Internationals struck again when Adams scored on an unassisted goal in the 55th minute by winning the ball in the midfield and beating the keeper low. Finally, Paige Maxwell found the back of the net for the Internationals off of a header in the 65th minute. Adams also assisted on her goal.
Amy Szilard broke through for the Gaels’ in the 90th minute, but it was too late for the Gaels’ to fight back.
Goalkeeper Carianne Betts had a strong game in the net and finished with six saves.
The Internationals are on the road Wednesday, June 6th in Fort Wayne, Indiana versus the Fort Wayne Fever. Game time is set for 7:00pm. The team is then back home of Friday, June 8th versus the Minnesota Lightning. The game is at the Copley Road Soccer Complex and begins at 6:30pm.
