Internationals Win First Road Game
Ft. Wayne, IN - Wednesday, June 6, 2007

The Cleveland Internationals W-League team defeated the Fort Wayne Fever 1-0 in their first away game of the season. The game was played on Wednesday night, June 6, in Fort Wayne Indiana. With only two games played, the Internationals now sit in second place in the Midwest Division.

The game was a battle from the start with both teams having many dangerous scoring opportunities in the first half. The shot totals were even at six at half time. In the second half, however, the Internationals turned up the heat, out shooting the Fever 22-3. The game remained scoreless in until the 89th minute when Internationals’ midfielder Amanda Cinalli broke through on an unassisted goal with a shot into the upper left corner to give the Internationals the win.

Cleveland Internationals’ goalkeeper Carianne Betts was instrumental in the win, making key stops on break aways and close shots by the Fort Wayne Fever. She finished the game with five saves.

The Cleveland Internationals return home on Friday, June 8, 2007. The game is at 6:30pm at the Copley Road Soccer Complex. The Internationals then travel to Lemont, Illinois on Sunday, June 10, 2007 to play the Chicago Gaels. Game time is set at 4:00pm.

NOTES:

- Internationals’ striker Danesha Adams was recognized by the league for her performance in the home opener – she scored a goal and tallied two assists in the 3-1 win. She was named to the W-League Team of the Week for week 4 of the 2007 W-League season. Adams is currently on duty with the U21 Women’s National Team.
