Internationals SC Teams Shine at the 2019 Blue Chip Showcase

Internationals Soccer Club had four teams play in the 2019 Blue Chip Showcase in Cincinnati, Ohio over the weekend of April 12-14, 2019.  Set for three games over three days the 2004, 2003, 2002, and 2001 teams saw competition from across the region during the first two days, but bad weather hit on Sunday and resulted in several cancellations.

The 2004 team started out playing a tough opponent in Nationals TriCounty (MI) and in an end to end game in rain and wind the team found themselves coming from two goals behind in the first half, to trail by only a single goal with a minute to play.  In the push to tie the game a late goal for Nationals saw the score end in a close 4-2 loss.  On day two, under better conditions ISC kept the game close against Ohio Premier (OH) going into halftime tied 0-0.  In the second half an early goal against put the team into attack mode but unfortunately late goals saw the game end in an 3-0 loss.  With a point to prove on Sunday the 2004s were set to play Northern Steel Fire (PA) but overnight rain made the fields unplayable for the early morning kickoff.

ISC 2003s started the weekend off with a bang at Northern Kentucky University.  Playing against Maplebrook (MN) an early goal for ISC saw a second goal quickly follow.  This lead was taken into halftime and with a lot of great soccer the team moved the ball around well and not long into the second half made the game 3-0, which was enough to see the team through for the win.  On day two a strong opponent in Salvo SC (MN) saw the game go all the way to the wire.  With several early attempts resulting in some good attacking opportunities and corners, the ISC 03s were knocking on the door.  Shortly before halftime though Salvo SC took the lead on a counter attack goal, a lead that they were able to hold despite a strong second-half performance from ISC.  Similar to the 2004s, the last game of the weekend that was scheduled against FWSC Kohl was washed out due to bad weather.

ISC 2002s were unbeaten on the weekend and although the team was only able to play two of its three games as well, they were able to come away with a 3-1 and a 2-0 victory over Maplebrook (MN) and Salvo SC (MN).  Both games were controlled from the beginning by Internationals SC and some very good finishing in front of goal from ISC and some strong defensive efforts allowed ISC to claim the two wins.

The only team that was able to play all three games was the ISC 2001 team.  Scoring nine goals and keeping three shutouts allowed ISC to win the group and come away with three strong performances.  On day one ISC played Warren County WCSA and with some very good two touch soccer was able to score three unanswered goals to win 3-0.  Day two brought about a very convincing performance from the team beating Hoosier FC (IN) 5-0 in a game that saw a very good collective effort to put away chances and stay strong in defense.  On the last day a much closer game ended in a 1-0 victory for the 2001s against Sporting Southern Indiana Pride (IN).  Taking the lead early in the game ISC had to fight for the remainder of the game against some strong wind and a team that defended very well.

“Overall the weekend was a success and a great learning experience for all that played,” said Assistant Coaching Director Mark Platts. “Our four teams showed well, played some good soccer under some difficult weather conditions against some challenging opponents.”
