Burchfield Sisters Lead the Way for Soccer in Stark County

Hannah and Sophie Burchfield have built impressive resumes during their time with Internationals SC.

Both are award-winning standouts at GlenOak HS in Canton, Ohio.  Hannah has earned OSHAA All-District Division I First Team, Federal League Second Team, and Stark County Second Team honors.  The elder Sophie has claimed USC All-Region, OHSAA All-State First Team, OHSAA All-District Division I First Team, OHSAA Youngstown District Player of the Year, Federal League First Team, and Stark County First Team honors.

Both Hannah and Sophie were excited to receive so many prestigious awards.

“It was a good confidence boost in my play and it inspired to do my best and grow as a player,” Hannah said.

“It felt good being recognized for the hard work but it was also motivation to work harder and achieve more goals,” Sophie said.

Both players play an important role on their GlenOak and Internationals SC squads.

“I would describe my playing style as being persistent, physical, and hard-working,” Hannah said. “My preferred position would either be attacking midfielder or center forward, and my thought process and approach to the game is that I have to put in the work and keep pushing and also to be confident myself and with my rate of play.”

“I would describe my playing style as aggressive, hard-working, team-oriented and persistent,” Sophie said. “I enjoy playing the attacking mid.  My thoughts going into the game are to be tenacious and to learn from my mistakes and fix them."

Hannah and Sophie have experienced tremendous success at the high school and club levels but have even bigger plans in mind.

“My short-term goals are to play as best I can this season and grow as a player,” Hannah said. “Long-term, I would like to play in college but I haven't thought about where I would like to go yet.”

“My short-term goals are to play in college and to improve with the team and help my team go as far as we can in playoffs," Sophie said. "I would like to play in college and am still in the recruiting process.  My long-term goals are to grow as a player and a person in the soccer community.”

The Burchfield sisters have benefitted from the club experience at Internationals SC.

“I see that the club really is in your best interests and pushes you to be the best player you can be, and the environment is very positive and helps you learn as a player,” Hannah said. “I chose Internationals because I wanted to be pushed and challenged and Internationals had great coaches and a positive and fun environment.”

“I was looking for a club and Internationals was a great club with great coaches,” Sophie said. “This club has pushed me past my limits and helped me become a better player and person.  Some benefits are great coaching, being able to compete with players as committed as I am, and being challenged every day to improve and work harder.”

ECNL Regional League Director Jared Rose has been impressed with the pair’s contributions to Internationals SC.

“Sophie has now been in the club for three years and we have enjoyed watching her grow,” Rose said. “She brings intensity and focus during every training session and loves to compete.  Hannah has just joined the club this year and has shown that she has a high work rate and dedication that will produce a high level of growth over the next couple of years.  To have sisters like this, that not only have talent, but also have a dedication and passion to being the best player they can be.  This magnifies their growth as individuals, as sisters, and brings her club sisters to the next level.  We at the club place a high emphasis on values like family, dedication, and passion, and with the Burchfields being a part of this family, our club continues to raise the bar in Northern Ohio.”

The sky’s the limit for Hannah and Sophie Burchfield as they continue on their soccer journeys.  They have already risen to the top of Stark County soccer and they now have their sights on even more.
