ISC Alum Loren Sefcik Completes Illustrious Career at Maryland

To say that ISC alum Loren Sefcik has had a successful career at the University of Maryland is quite the understatement.  The Medina, Ohio native has played nearly 5,000 minutes in 66 appearances (57 starts).  She logged a total of eight goals, three of which were game-winners, and five assists.

“Loren has been a rock for us this season and throughout her time as a Terp,” Maryland women’s soccer head coach Ray Leone said. “Her energy and passion for the game has set an incredible example for our team, and her leadership will be missed in this program once she wraps up her career.  I'm grateful for the opportunity I've had to coach her."

The midfielder earned several awards, including Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.  She has also experienced success in the classroom as a Studio Art major and General Business minor.

“I have had a great experience these past four years playing soccer for the University of Maryland,” Sefcik said. “Being a part of such a great program has taught me to persevere through adversity, become resilient, and come together as a team to accomplish a common goal.  I have created everlasting friendships and memories with my teammates that will last a lifetime.  Even though this is not how we wanted to end our 2021 season, I will cherish the moments and great times that I have had with my teammates and coaches.”

Sefcik was a top prospect headed into college, recruited by the likes of Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Georgetown and Kansas.  This came as no surprise due to her success at the club level.  She was selected for two U.S. national team camps, including the U-14 Girls and U-18 Women's camps.  She also was selected for U.S. Soccer Training Center and US Club Soccer id2 camps.  Her awards and honors at the club level were numerous, including IMG Academy Top 150, ECNL Best 11, ECNL Mid-Atlantic Best 11, and USL Super Y U-13 Girls National All-Tournament honors.

Sefcik played just one season of high school soccer, tallying 20 goals and eight assists for Medina HS in 2015.  She still earned first team all-district and first team all-conference honors for her efforts.

Internationals SC Club and ECNL Director Keri Sarver is extremely proud of the success Sefcik has experienced at the collegiate level.

“It’s bittersweet to cheer on Loren as she ends her career at Maryland,” Sarver said. “As an alum of both Internationals and Maryland, it always brings me great pride when one of our players chooses to be a Terp!  Loren has had a fantastic career and has represented the club and the Maryland program so well.”

Loren Sefcik has represented her club, community, and university well, and everyone is eager to see what she will accomplish in the next stage of her career.
